Grandma Bea's Rolls

Ingredients

yeast mixture:

  • 1 tsp sugar 
  • 2 1/2 tsp yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
Dry Mixture:
2 Tsp Crisco
1 Tsp sugar
1 tsp salt

Other:
5 cups white flour
crisco for greasing.

Directions
Put yeast and sugar in warm water. Set aside. Combine dry mixture ingredients. when yeast is ready, add dry mixture to it and stir gently. Add flour, stirring and kneading as little as possible. You may have to add less flour or more water to reach the right consistency. Form gently into a ball. Place in greased bowl and cover. Let rise until doubled (around 3-4 hours). Punch down. Let rise once more for about an hour. Without punching down, pinch off pieces of dough and from gently into balls .Cover each ball lightly with crisco and place on a cookie sheet. Cover and let rise one last time until doubled. Cook in a 400 degree oven for about 12-20 minutes. Length of time will depend on the oven.
