Grandma Grace's Chinese Almond cookies



  • 2 sticks of butter
  • 3 c of flour
  • 1 generous cup of sugar
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1/2 t baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • 1 t almond extract
  • optional; yellow food coloring, almonds, red food coloring
Mix all ingredients. Add yellow food coloring if desired. Knead into smooth. Make 1 inch balls. press onto ungreased cookie sheet until cookie is about 1/4-1/4 inch tall. Decorate with almond in the center or red dot (use chopstick as stamp). Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
