Ingredients:
- 2 T oil
- 1 onion chopped
- 6-7 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 lb ground beef (can substitute ground pork or lamb)
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 1-2 fresh chilies, minced
- 1 t-5 t ground coriander
- 1 t -5 t ground cumin
- 1/8 -1/2 t ground cayenne pepper
- 1 1/4 cups water
- 1 1/2 c peas (can substitute green beans, spinach etc.)
- 1 bunch corriander, chopped
- 1 1/2 t salt
- 1 t-3t garam masala (can substitute cinnamon)
- 1 1/2 T lemon juice
Heat oil in saucepan. Add onion and garlic, when starting to brown nicely add meat, ginger, green chilis, ground coriander, cumin and cayenne. Cook until meat is done. Add water and bring to boil. Cover and turn heat to low. Simmer for about 30 minutes (can shorten if in time crunch). Add frozen/fresh peas, fresh coriander, salt, garam masala, lemon juice. Mix and bring to simmer. Adjust salt, lemon juice and spices to taste.
* the older the spices are the more you'll have to use. Also depending on your family preferences. Serve with other indian dishes, over basmati rice or just with tortillas.
Veggies for kids: Puree your veggies and then add them to this. But, many kids don't mind the peas in this dish.
