Tomato Otchaar

Ingredients:
  • 5 roma tomatoes (or 1 can of italian roma tomatoes)
  • 1/4 t turmeric
  • 1/4 t salt
  • 1/8 t red chili powder (optional)
If using fresh tomatoes, core them and then broil until skin turns black (turn so they blacken all around). Peel tomatoes.

for either canned or fresh; Put tomatoes into small pot, add salt turmeric, chili powder and smash it all down. Cook over medium low heat for 8 to 12 minutes.

serve with dal and rice
